Upper 9th Ward Moton Elementary School
Do you know what a zombie apocalypse is like? If not you can definitely experience what it would be like if you went to the upper 9th ward. Before Hurricane Katrina came through and wiped out New Orleans the Upper 9th ward was a place of residence for a lot f African Americans. The upper 9th ward streets are now filled with trash and remainders of demolished buildings that use to be called home to many people.
Lower 9th Ward
Being that Upper 9th Ward was a zombie apocalypse that would place lower 9th ward in good standing with a better up and coming city. Well unfortunately this is not the case! Lower 9th Ward is just as bad as Upper 9th ward except it has more residence. Over half New Orleans neighborhoods have recovered and has about 90% of their population back (Allen, 2016). Sadly Lower 9th Ward is not one of them.
Lower 9th Ward has a shipping channel that cuts off access to the rest of New Orleans (Allen, 2016). When the canal's flood walls gave way, water surged through the neighborhood, pushing houses off their foundation (Allen, 2016). 12ft deep water stood in some of these areas for weeks. Lower 9th ward was the last area to be pumped dry (Allen, 2016).
